Bird update 2

I've just got back from our vets, I took the bird in. Hopefully it'll be ok. Lady and Charlie have been very protective of it! But I was starting to worry about food for it...I'm not prepared to dig up worms!! Just got to break the news to Darren...he was looking forward to seeing it when he finished work!

Bird update

Morning! It's a hot one here. Just gonna cosy up with my knitting watching 'Angel' and on the computer until I start work at 3pm.

The bird is still in our garden. I put a box out for it last night in case it rained...soft aren't I! I woke up at about 5.30 to my fella looking out of the window, a cat was in our garden stalking the bird. Lady (our dog) was growling at the cat, Darren went down and scared the cat away. Then this morning he was out holding the water bowl to it to drink from! At least I'm not the only softie!!

In fact Charlie (the bird killing cat) lay about a foot away from it yesterday sun bathing and just ignoring the bird!We think it might be a young pigeon....

Patchwork Blanket WIP

So this is it so far...bad lighting I'm afraid so it doesn't do the colours justice but you can get a feel for what it looks like. I'll decide where all the patches go on the final layout.

Fly away bird

I'm melting...I'm sure we're due a storm as it's quite dark but roasting outside. Just needs to wait til my duvet cover is dry.

For the last few days I've noticed a scratty looking black bird in our front garden. Doesn't seem to fly. Today my cat (who is renowned for bringing baby birds in), was prowling near it. He did get close enough to attack but just watched as bird backed off. Luckily i've brought Charlie now, just in case. He keeps popping behind my conifer but not flying. Cos of the heat I put out a make shift bird bath...which it started to get into. No sooner had I done that and a magpie came at it. So bird went behind conifer again. I put a 2nd bath out and that made magpie go...left them both out though. Think bird is too scared to come out now.

I hope it's ok and flies away safely.....

July already?

Another month has flown by....my last OU essay is due in by midnight tonight (gulp!!) Then I've until Sept to get my ECA (dissertation) done...then I can do guilt free knitting until it starts again end of next Jan. My final year......I'll be busier too as I'm doing it full time not part time.

Also realised that I've got until the 18th July to send off my contributions to the current Loving Hands Challenge. I'll sort everything out at the weekend. I haven't done as much as I would like to have done but everything counts....must buy stuffing as I need it for Buffalo's teddy and some Teddies for Tragedy.

On the 24th July Darren and I start our 2 week hols. Not going away...determined to get house done. Last 2 summers I've been off with my back...so this makes a nice change! We'll also have days out. We've already booked our tickets to go see Walking with Dinosaurs http://www.dinosaurlive.com/about-the-show/ on 31.7.09 with the family, so it should be a great evening out!! Can't wait!! Check out the site...amazing!!!! We've seen clips on You-tube also...absolutely breath taking. We're off cos it's our neice and nephew's 7th bday in July and he is MAD about dinosaurs...isn't everyone! :)

Back to a long term WIP

I've been making more of the patches for this long term WIP blanket as mentioned on a post last year http://lizsknitting.blogspot.com/2008/10/my-current-wip.html . I'm now on my 36th patch. I figure I need 64 patches for the size I'm making (they are 34cm each)...as much as I love making it, I get bored after a while...in fact I'd forgotten about it until I got fed up of making the fluffy scarves half way through the 4th one!

Since picking this up again Saturday evening I've made almost 4 patches...let's see how far I get before moving on again.....lol

Why did I think working an extra shift today was a good idea?

I'm already melting and the thought of running around with the kids at work, just isn't appealing now. Don't get me wrong I love my job, but when it's hot, humid and a Sunday morning....I'd rather be home!

Hot enough for you??

I hope everyone has been enjoying the sun...although at times I've found it too hot and 'muggy'.

I havent been hand knitting due to the heat but I have been loom knitting. I've made 2 scarves and I'm on my 3rd one. I know, it isn't exactly the right thing to make in the summer but they are for my autumn/winter craft fairs and charity.

I love loom knitting because it is so simple and effective. It is also REALLY quick!

The 2 pink/purple scarves were made using 100g of fluffy cheap yarn each. I got 200g for £1.

The pink/yellow scarf, which is still on the orange loom, was the same price.

Length for the scarves is my height (5'4").

Although it is cheap, they are lovely and soft (bargains for charity knitting).

Reminder to self....

It's been a while since I put any free patterns on my blog. I must sit and write them. I have some Ipod/mobile phone cases, crochet hat and purses to put on.

It's finding the time to do it instead of knitting/crocheting! Oh and of course working and uni!! lol

Buffalo's Teddy

This is the teddy I've made and the wool used. He just needs sewing up and stuffing but I need to buy some more stuffing.

I love Jean Greenhowe's patterns and I've lost count of how many I've made...lost count of how many of these teddy's I've made too! In fact I know the pattern so well that when the pattern was published in a UK magazine with another designers name, I complained to the magazine and notified Jean (who very kindly thanked me for letting her her!) - Not quite sure why I told you this but then a little bit of waffle never does anyone any harm...eh?! lol

Ripple Blanket photos

Well I've finally taken the photos of my 1st ripple blanket. I love it...it is so soft, the photos don't do the colours justice.

I also made a pair of simple garter stitch mittens and bootees using the same blue wool.

Anyway here it is!!

I took loads of photos but thought you probably wouldn't want to see them all!!

Last night I started making a jumper for Buffalo, again using the same blue...I know blue is boringly traditional but it's such a lovely shade and so soft!! Besides, next I'll make things in the green. Yellow will probably be used for something else....

Exciting news!!

Buffalo is a boy!! 19 weeks old, due around 8th Nov 2009!! I'm going to be an auntie to another nephew!! I cannot wait!!!

Time flies...

Ok so where did the weekend go?!

I did some uni work Saturday morning and then went to work til 10pm.

Sunday...went out for breakfast, Asda, recycling. Then home and I helped Darren with his special effects. Showered. Took lady out for walk. Made tea. Watched Alien. Bed.

Not fair...I need some me time!! Tonight maybe.....

I got home from work about 30mins ago and expected to find my rabbit and guinea pig swimming in their runs. When I went to work this morning it was lovely and sunny but then we had an amazing thunder/lightening storm and lots and lots of rain!! Luckily I always cover their runs to protect them from the sun (white rabbits burn badly) so it protects them from the rain. But I still expected the ground to be soaking inside their runs and the roads were flooded where I work. I guess it didn't storm here....as it's dry and sunny!

Another blanket project???

I think I've found another possible blanket project...it's a pattern to buy at http://www.interweavestore.com/store/p/738-Babette-Blanket.aspx but I'm more than confident I can make this without a pattern...just wish I was confident I had the time!!!
I just love how it uses all different sizes of squares. The info re the pattern says that "the modules are all based on the same motif pattern; they vary only in the number of rounds worked." It'll be like a huge jigsaw puzzle putting it together!

I think the lovely blanket pattern at http://doyoumindifiknit.typepad.com/do_you_mind_if_i_knit/2009/05/crochetpatterns.html will be perfect for this blanket.
